Seeing God in the Back Seat of My Minivan
20 December 2006

As the father of four young boys, let’s just say I’m exposed to all sorts of mischief. Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty o tender moments, but what I seem to write about a lot are those, “Oh, no you didn’t!” type of events. I guess that’s because I see me in those moments, thinking back to when I was a little guy and always finding a way to get into big trouble. I don’t only see myself in these moments, it seems I always see a bit of a lesson in them for myself. Let me tell you what I…

Everything Would Die Without Her
29 September 2006

Last night I got home for a class and walked by our salt-water fish tank. I noticed the fish were actually alive, along with our anemone and starfish. I asked Andrea if she’d been feeding them, and she said “Yes.” I said, “Thank God, cause I haven’t been.” She said, “I know. Everything in this house would die without me.” She is so right. With four boys, a dog, fish tank, and me, she’s got a lot going on as our life-support.

Back To School Splash! 8/16/06

A shot of me during our “Back to School Splash.” It was a night of fun water events on the first day of school for many kids in the area. We got even more soaked as the rain rolled in. That made it even better, or “more funner” as one of my sons says. smile You can…

Surprise Party
02 July 2006

Originally uploaded by donella.gallo.
I was totally surprised yesterday by Andrea, who threw me a birthday party for my big 3-0. We were dropping off our boys at her parent’s house and then going to go for dinner and a ride up the coast on my bike. I was waiting outside their house for her to come out for the ride when my father-in-law tricked me inside with a computer problem…

The Cost of Raising Children
22 June 2006

I’ll often hear couples say that they don’t have a child, or aren’t having any more children, because they can’t afford it. I’ve never really met anyone who has sat down and done the math to figure out how much it actually costs to raise a child. I do bet that if I were to see the worksheet that they came up with they would not have a category on it called “dumb stuff.” Let me explain.

Last night while watching TV with Andrea and our boys we began to hear a tap-tap-tap-tap. I paused the TV and we…

Talking Trash
30 May 2006

It’s a sad day for me. Let me explain. For years I’ve always prided myself in being good at video games. I’m not a pro, but I can hold my own. So this weekend I picked up a copy of a new Table Tennis game for the Xbox 360. My 5 year old son, Aaron, wanted to play so I chose two-player and away we went. I CANNOT BEAT THIS KID! Here’s some photos of him in action:

Knowing Neighbors
22 May 2006

I really never knew our neighbors until we moved into our current community about 2 years ago. We moved in between the two hurricanes that hit south Florida, and immediately to go know each one of them as we boarded up and rode out the storms of 2004.

Tonight my wife and I were hanging out in the front yard with some of our boys, a nephew, and some neighborhood kids. Our dog has a long training leash that turned into a limbo rope, and then a jump rope for them. As we were playing, some neighbors came over…

Serving and Spilling Gas
27 April 2006

This morning, on the way to drop my boys off at school, I had to stop and get gas. My two oldest boys love to “help” me when I do certain things around the house. They love to help plant flowers and fertilize the grass. Well, this morning they wanted to help me pump the gas. I stuck the nozzle into the car and clicked the handle so it pumped gas on its own. I let my oldest son, 6 years old, hold it while the gas flowed. My other son, 5 years old, felt he needed to help out more…

Thoughts on Holy Thursday
14 April 2006

Last night, we had a great service for Holy Thursday. I like how we blend in liturgical elements (Apostles Creed) during these types of services. They give the worship experience a sense of historical context. We usually have a mid-week service that has large-group teaching, followed by small-groups breaking up over campus and exploring that week’s topic. Yet for Holy Week, we move the midweek service to Thursday in honor of our Savior’s Upper Room ministry. I find it odd that some churches don’t take advantage of the many opportunities to make memories around the events of Passion week. I know…

John David Webster Concert
25 March 2006

Tonight my church had its first concert in our 2006 concert series. John David Webster performed. I must say I was really impressed with his music. He and his drummer were the only two guys on stage, but it sounded huge. They had an authentic tone, and the lyrics resonated with my stage in life. Everyone there had a great time. Before the concert a couple of the small-groups of the church had a talegating party that was a lot of fun. We had all of our kids there. They played ball and pretended to do battle with sticks.…

Open But Broken
24 March 2006

Well, well, well. Here we go again. I’ve been having the urge to start writing more and thought getting this blog back up would be a good outlet for me. I also want to be able to have a place on the web for family and friends to check out what’s going on inside our family—as much as we’ll let you see anyway smile

All that being said “Seeking the City” is now open again, but with a word of warning: Still under development. I needed to get the site open to the…
